color pencils      markers         water color paints        chalk pastels                oil pastels         collage

    Art Styles:

I incorporate many styles of art into lessons in order to appeal to each of the student’s strengths and interests.  With each material, the students will learn techniques to use the materials correctly and apply that knowledge to a project assigned.

    Art History, Appreciation, and Criticism:

As part of the art history and appreciation portion of the class, the students will learn the proper steps for completing an art criticism.   Once the process is taught the students will critique an artwork several times a quarter.   Students will also be reading about art and will be responsible for learning art vocabulary and terms.

Students will be responding both orally and written to questions about art in order to reinforce their understanding.

    GRADES----

    Classwork/Homework: 50%

Classwork will consist of writing assignments done in class, daily warm-ups, and practice work.  The written assignments are to teach the students to think about art and write their ideas and opinions about art in an intelligent manner.

    Tests and Projects 50%

Tests: 2-5 test assessments will be given each quarter.  The mid-term exam will count as 2 test grades.

Projects: Students will be given between 3-5 projects each quarter to complete.  They will also be given sketchbook assignments.  The sketchbooks will be checked at least 2 times each quarter and the cumulative grade will equal 1 project grade.   Each of the projects will be graded based on the specific criteria given to the students using a rubric.  Craftsmanship amounts to a large portion of the final grade on a project. Craftsmanship refers to the effort put forth by the student in their artwork. The students will complete a self-evaluation and reflection on each project using the rubric.  This allows the students an opportunity to reflect on their art and their decision making process when creating their project.  This self- evaluation is taken into consideration when I grade the work.

Final Exam: 10% of semester grade
