  • Jerico Carrillo is a determined music educator with many years of experience teaching students from various backgrounds and ages. He’s a knowledgeable and experienced multi-instrumentalist grounded in woodwind and brass pedagogy.

    Before moving to Greensboro, Jerico was pursuing his Bachelor of Music in Music Education at Belmont University in Nashville, TN (as well as musical/educational experiences at Vanderbily University). While living in Nashville, Jerico created a professional career grounded in music education and performance. As a performer, Jerico has performed as an active studio musician and pit orchestra player throughout middle Tennessee. His most active venue was Nashville’s own Ocean Way Recording studio located on Music Row.

    After moving to Greensboro, Jerico attained his Master of Music degree in Multiple Woodwind Performance at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) as well as his Post-Baccalaureate degree in Music Education. He is still an active performer in the musical theater and church scenes throughout the Piedmont Triad area. 

    While teaching at Southern Guilford High School, Jerico was named Rookie Teacher of the Year for SGHS (2021-2022), Rookie Teacher of the Year for all of Guilford County Schools (2022-2023), and was named a state finalist for the 2023 Beginning Teacher of the Year Award. He was also selected in 2024 to work with Drum Corps International as an IN-STEP Fellow, which allowed him to work with Jersey Surf World Class Drum & Bugle Corps. Most recently, the SGHS Storm Big Band was selected to perform at the 2025 Minority Band Directors National Association - National Concert in Atlanta, GA.
