  • Good evening, Jefferson Eagles, this is your Proud Principal, Sue Villarrubia. I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. We have a few announcements and a lot of fun things going on this week.

    First for our reminders -

Go Far has started for the Spring. The deadline for students to join Go Far has passed. If your child started last week, please make sure they are also registered and paid, online, for the Go Far Race at www.gofarclub.org. Students must be registered online by the start of practice tomorrow, 2:30pm, to continue participating.

3rd Quarter Conferences have started. This is a reminder that the main office closes at 3:30pm. so if your appointment is later than 3:30pm make arrangements with your child's teacher to let them know when you arrive. The doors are locked.

We are seeing an increased number of students using inappropriate language, unkind words and putting their hands on each other. Please talk with your child(ren) about the importance of kindness, following the school rules and procedures. The JES Way requires kindness and maintaining a safe environment for all students.

Protecting Instructional Time - The office staff send all phone calls to voicemail during the instructional day. Interruptions during instruction make it very difficult for students and staff to focus. We only have 52 instructional days left this year!! Every Minute Matters!!

  • Good evening, Jefferson families, this is your proud principal, Sue Villarrubia. I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend.

This week is "Say Something Week." This is a nationwide program that was developed for parents and educators after Sandy Hook. The program focuses on ways to make our schools safer for everyone. Our counselors will speak to students during their classes about their role in keeping our school safe. Safety is a top priority at Jefferson. We focus yearlong on KINDNESS because we know that using kind words and actions is an important part of creating a safe, inclusive environment. Please take time this week and talk to your child about how they contribute to our safe environment and share different ways that you, as their parents, also contribute to the safety of our school community.

  • Good evening, Jefferson families, this is your Proud Principal, Sue Villarrubia. I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. We have a fun week planned for our JES community! It is READ ACROSS AMERICA WEEK and what is something we love to do at Jefferson, it is READING!!

Before I tell you about our fun week, please listen carefully to the following announcements -

STUDENT DEVICES - Please make sure your child is only using their school device for schoolwork. They should not be taking pictures or videos with their device, unless directed by their teacher. Students should NEVER take devices out on the bus. (You can check their device search history, photo album, etc to ensure they are using it correctly.)

Absences - Please email 423-attendance@gcsnc.com if you are child is absent. Include the child's name, reason for absence and date of absence. Please also copy their teacher and if you have any trouble, you can also copy our data manager, Ms. Graver, at gravera@gcsnc.com as well.

GMAIL and GCS Issues - GCS technology shared that we were experiencing issues with outside Gmail accounts getting blocked through the GCS server. Technology has identified the issue and a fix has been applied so this issue should now be resolved. If you have emailed your child's teacher or another school staff member and did not get a response, please try again. Sorry for any inconveniences this may have caused.

  • Good evening, Jefferson families, this is your proud principal, Sue Villarrubia. I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. Thank you to everyone that helped us celebrate Love the Bus week, Valentine's Day, and the 100th Day of School last week.

    A few reminders -

    1. It is time to order your 2022-23 yearbook. They are $15 and can be purchased through K12 Payment Online. The fee name is 423-YEARBOOK 22-23. They will only be available as supplies last.

    2. Thank you for everyone's efforts to reduce our chronic absences and tardies. Attendance Matters - All day, every day.

    3. Please encourage your child to read every night. Studies show children reading at least 15 minutes a day achieved accelerated reading gains and those reading less were at risk of falling behind their peers. All children can be successful. Your encouragement for reading is very powerful!

Our JES Habit of the month is problem solving. A great way to help your child learn problem solving skills is to play board games with your child. Have fun and enjoy the problem-solving!

Have a great week and thank you for your ongoing support of our JES Way with Purpose.
