Hi, My name is Mr. Cortland Kirson, and I'm glad you've taken a moment to visit me here online!
I work in the Exceptional Children's department as an OCS (Occupational course of service) Instructor and Case Manager here at SGHS. Which means I provide children under my care with specially designed instruction to help them best meet their transitional goals pursuing work or specialized training immediately after high school. I also work with general education teachers to make sure each student is being taught in a way that best fits their IEP or individualized education program. I have worked with special needs, neuro-divergent, and otherwise exceptional children for a combined total of nearly ten years, but I have been here at SGHS for three amazing ones so far.
And as for myself,I grew up primarily between Wa'awa'a on the big island of Hawaii and Los Angeles California before moving to North Carolina where I attended GTCC and the University of North Carolina at Pembroke where I initially majored in Indigenous American History and participated in Pembroke's Model U.N League and M.A.L teams.
Outside of school, I enjoy visiting small towns in the area to find new thrift-stores and second-hand bookshops in addition to reading history and folklore, studying foreign languages, and attending live panels and seminars-- alongside the occasional videogame tournament.
