Welcome to the SGHS Media Center! My name is Rachel McConoughey, and I am the media specialist at SGHS. I have been a media specialist since 2009 and have been working at Southern High since 2022. I attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. In addition to working at Southern, I serve as the Director of Book Programs for the North Carolina School Library Media Association. I am also a National Board Certified Media Specialist as of December 2024.

I look forward to assisting students in finding recreational reading materials as well as resources for information. I hope that as the school year progresses, all students will become critical thinkers and problem solvers through the utilization of books, technology tools, visual media, and other informational sources.  

Our media center is open daily from 9:00-4:30 for open book circulation and class visits. Students may come to the Media Center individually or in small groups with a pass from a teacher throughout the day. The Media Center is also open during lunch.
