Paulette Bernard Named GCS Volunteer of the Month PTA Vice President creates an environment of compassion at Swann Middle
Greensboro, N.C. – Since her son began attending Swann Middle three years ago, Paulette Bernard has selflessly supported staff, teachers and parents at the school. The students often think Paulette is part of the staff because she spends a lot of her time at the school assisting where needed. Bernard was named the GCS Volunteer of the Month for June.
No task is too big for Paulette. When the front office becomes busy, Paulette eagerly steps in to talk with parents and answer questions about the school. She answers the phone, takes messages and makes copies. On many occasions, Paulette gives school tours and provides information to parents about programs and activities. Teachers appreciate her help working with students who may need individual assistance with lessons. During End of Grade (EOG) testing, she serves as a test proctor for all grade levels. Paulette is a key contributor to the school's Leadership Team and Indistar Leadership Team. Last year, she served on the school’s planning committee for the renaming event. As a proud Title I parent ambassador, Paulette eagerly recruits members of the community to volunteer at Swann Middle. Even though Paulette’s term as PTA vice president ends this year and her son moves on the high school, she plans to continue assisting Swann Middle with fundraisers, helping parents stay connected with school and creating an environment of compassion and caring for others.
“Ms. Bernard surely brings life and joy to Swann Middle," says Gabrielle Hall, curriculum facilitator at the school who nominated Bernard. "We wouldn't be the same without her."
As the GCS Volunteer of the Month, Paulette Bernard was presented with a $50 VISA gift card, courtesy of Rice Toyota who has sponsored the program since 2013. During the month of June, her photo will hang at the district’s central offices, Swann Middle and Rice Toyota Collision Center on Battleground Ave.
