What is Year Book Club?

Membership on the Gator Year Book allows students an opportunity to produce the school year book while learning literacy, leadership and entrepreneur skills. Year Book models practices that inspire every student to read, write, think and talk which is part of our literacy program.  Specifically, students develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning, revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach; Use technology, including the Internet, to produce and publish writing and to interact and collaborate with others; Write routinely over extended time frames (time for research, reflection, and revision) and shorter time frames (a single sitting or a day or two) for a range of tasks, purposes, and audiences; Work with peers to set rules for collegial discussions and decision-making (e.g., informal consensus, taking votes on key issues, presentation of alternate views), clear goals and deadlines, and individual roles as needed; Integrate multiple sources of information presented in diverse formats and media (e.g., visually, quantitatively, orally) in order to make informed decisions and solve problems, evaluating the credibility and accuracy of each source and noting any discrepancies among the data. This is intensive work in which the student will earn 50 or more service learning hours partnering with students, staff and community supporters to capture the diversity and culture of our school within the pages of the finished product.
