• Beth Hurley is the Band and Orchestra Director at Northwest Guilford Middle School.  She is a National Board Certified Teacher currently in her 17th year as a music educator.  While teaching at Northwest Middle School, Ms. Hurley has consistently led her band and orchestra ensembles to earning superior ratings at North Carolina Music Performance Adjudication. Additionally, many of her students have been selected for All-County Band and Orchestra, All-District Band, and Junior Western Region Orchestra.  In 2024, Ms. Hurley's 7th and 8th grade orchestra classes were invited to perform as part of the National Orchestra Festival.  She also conducted the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools 2024 Middle School Repertory Orchestra. 

    Ms. Hurley received her undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina Greensboro, where she studied clarinet under Dr. Shawn Copeland and conducting with Mr. Robert Gutter and Dr. Kevin Geraldi.  She completed her collegiate experience by performing on clarinet as a member of the National Collegiate Wind Ensemble at Carnegie Hall.  In 2023, she completed her Masters degree in Music education at the University of North Carolina Greensboro.

    Ms. Hurley spends her summers as an assessor for the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.  Additionally, she was an item writer for the National Board Assessment Center Exercises, composing questions for the Early/Middle Childhood Orchestra section. She also assesses new teacher portfolios through the edTPA process and is a New Teacher Mentor.

    Ms. Hurley is a member of The National Association for Music Education, Music Educators of North Carolina, The American String Teachers Association and is Chair Person of the Board of Directors for the Central District chapter of the North Carolina Bandmaster's Association.
