Mrs. Arlene Sims

Hello, my name is Arlene Sims, and I am the 6th grade counselor at WGMS.

I have been a part of Tiger Nation since 2018.  Before coming to Western Guilford Middle School, I worked in both a Day Treatment and Intensive In-Home programs providing therapeutic services to children and their families.  I received a Masters in Marriage & Family Therapy in 2014 from Liberty University.  I completed the Add-on Licensure School Counseling Program at UNC-Pembroke in 2021, and am a Licensed Professional School Counselor.  I enjoy helping people through the difficult moments in their lives.  I enjoy working with young people and am looking forward to the new school year.

Responsibilities & Service

As a school counselor, my primary responsibility is to provide support to our students.  I work with students through: individual/group counseling, classroom guidance lessons (such as: bullying, communication skills, career/college readiness, and conflict resolution); and facilitating restorative circles.  I support students and their families through collaboration with other stakeholders and by providing references to outside services, when necessary.  My additional responsibilities include: Chair for our Academically Gifted students, and Home/Hospital Lead.  Students are encouraged to participate in the WGMS Counseling Corner on Canvas.  Please be sure to accept the invitation to join the Canvas page.
