    General

    Gateway Education Center currently has 17 classrooms. There are approximately 7 students, 1 teacher and 1 teacher assistant assigned to each classroom. The school follows guidelines set by the federal, state and local governments. Each student's curriculum is unique and guided by an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) which may or may not include areas of cognitive ability, self-help, vocational training, leisure and recreation, communication, physical and /or occupational therapies, and medication.

    I.E.P 

    The Individualized Education Plan is developed with the collaboration of teachers, therapists, parents/guardians, students and others who may be involved to help meet the individual's needs. Students' needs are best met in the least restrictive placement.

    Population served

    Students with severe and multiple mental and/or physical disabilities.

    Ages served

    Ages 6 months to 3 years in the infant toddler program. Ages 3 to 5 in the Pre-K program. Ages 5 to 22 years in the school age program. 

    Classroom description

    Each classroom has 5 - 12 students. Certified teachers in the areas of Birth to Kindergarden and the Adaptive Curriculum licensure areas. Team teaching (teacher, assistant, physical therapists, occupational therapist, speech therapist, counselor, adapted physical education and other areas as needed ie.,vocational education. This provides a full continuum of services on a daily basis.
