• Four Houses, One Family

Let's talk about our House system here at Joyner. We enthusiastically participate in the House system pioneered by the Ron Clark Academy. The House system is a way for students and staff members to build character, positive relationships, healthy competition, and school spirit, by creating an exciting school environment.

All students and staff members are "sorted" into one of four color-coded Houses: Altruismo, Amistad, Isibindi, and Reveur. Each House has a team color, a team mascot, a team character trait, a team cheer, and even team hand signs! Students and staff members meet on Monday mornings to have House meetings. House meetings are a time for the team to learn about character traits and character education, participate in team-building activities, and practice social emotional skills.

Throughout the school day, students are able to earn House points via the Class Dojo app for showing positive behavior in the various common areas and Specials classes. (Art, Music, PE, Media, and Guidance are considered Specials classes.) Students may also earn House points by wearing their One Card, logging reading minutes into Beanstack, and going above and beyond the usual expectations of a Joyner Jaguar!

At the end of each month, the PBIS committee tallies all of the House points earned by each House. On the last Friday of the month, we hold a Pep Rally to celebrate the House of the month! This is an exciting time for us to recognize and celebrate the positive behavior of all students.

Only one House may win the House of the month competition, but we are all winners when we all try to be the best Joyner Jaguar we can be!
