    Quarter 1- Skills: Reading, Writing and Speaking grounded in Evidence, Unit Title: The Lost Children of Sudan Text: A Long Walk to Water

    Quarter 2- Skills: Researching to Build and Present Knowledge, Unit Title: Epidemics, Core Text: Patient Zero

    Quarter 3- Skills: Analyzing, Interpreting, and Evaluating a Text, Unit Title: The Harlem Renaissance, Core Text: One Last Word

    Quarter 4- Skills: Researching to Write and Present Arguments, Unit Title: Plastic Pollution  Core Text: Trash Vortex

    Materials- , 1 subj. notebook, 1 Folder w/ prongs & 1 w/ holes punched & pockets, paper. Planner

     

     

    Grading Scale      

      50% Classwork: 15% Quiz: 35% Assessments/Tests/Projects

    Binders and Student Work: Students will be responsible for keeping work up to date in binders and will be assessed several times throughout each quarter. It’s important for students to bring binders to class each day.

    Journals- Students will complete journal writing each day. These will be incorporated into final projects, assessments and performance tasks. Additionally, grade level vocabulary, standard grammar usage, and critical thinking are integrated with journals. Students will perform narrative, argumentative, expository, and research writing throughout the course of 7th grade.

     Students should have a 1 subject notebook for journals.  

    Homework: Homework assignments will be given on an as needed basis in Language Arts. Students should read every night for at least 30 mins. The most effective way to increase reading comprehension is by reading every day at school and home. Students are expected to complete at least 1 book independently each quarter, in addition to books assigned for class reading.

    Make-up/Late Work: Students are expected to record deadlines in their planner and to turn in work by due dates. If students are absent, they are responsible for checking Canvas/PowerSchool or with the teacher for work. Missing work will be accepted at teacher discretion.

    Parent Communication: Parents, please check your child’s planner daily. He/she should have assignments recorded for each class. Progress reports will be emailed approximately every 4.5 weeks of each quarter. Feel free to e-mail or call with any questions or concerns that you may have. Should you prefer more direct communication please call the school to arrange a conference. Please check Canvas and PowerSchool.
