My name is Mr. Lilja (pronounced, LIL-JAH) and I look forward to being your ELD Reading Teacher this year! ELD stands for "English Language Development" and I work with our Kernodle Scholars on their academic English skills in the areas of reading, writing, listening, and speaking. I enjoy helping students reach their full potential by providing a fun and challenging classroom environment. I have been teaching academic English to non-native English speakers since 2002. I have a Bachelor of Science Degree from Corneel University and a Master's Degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from The SIT Graduate Institute. I am originally from the suburbs of Boston, Massachusetts. I have lived in Greensboro since 2015. I live here with my wife, two children (7th and 9th grade), and three dogs.
Open communication is very important to me. Outside of class, I communicate with students using Canvas Inbox and I communicate key information with families using the "TalkingPoints" App.
I look forward to a great year!
