Classroom Expectations

We encourage positive behavior throughout the day. Rules are established as a group and are modeled and practiced during the first few weeks of school. We strive to ensure that all students have a thorough understanding of the expectations.

  • BUTTON BAG: Each child has is assigned a "number" to use for the school year. Students are given 10 "positive behavior buttons" with his/her number on them. When a student is caught following rules, being a good friend, or a good listener, he/she is told to put a "button" in the button bag. Buttons are pulled out of the bag throughout the day for special jobs like line leader or door holder or for special prizes. All students have a special "golden button" in the bag. This ensures that all students have at least one chance to be chosen from the bag. The better behaved a child is during the day, the more chances for being chosen as a helper or for a prize!!
  • DOJO: You will be given a Class DOJO code to join our Classroom DOJO. This will be used to communicate various messages with you throughout the day or week. You can expect updates regarding work and behavior on your DOJO app.
  • GOLDEN SPOTS: "Golden Spots" are a School-wide incentive for common areas. They are tickets that are awarded for good behavior in the hallway, cafeteria, playground or assemblies. Golden Spots are placed in a weekly drawing for prizes from the Johnson Street PBIS school store!
  • MISBEHAVIOR: We all have difficult days every now and again! That's okay!! If someone is being disruptive or intentionally breaking a classroom or school rule, he/she will be given a verbal warning and reminded of the appropriate behavior. If the misbehavior continues, the student will be sent to the time-out mat with a timer. When the time is up, the student may rejoin the activity. If we see a pattern of disruptive or unfriendly behavior, I will send you a DOJO message, call, or text you about the behavior. Conferences may be set up to discuss repeat behaviors so that we can work as a team to ensure that your child has a successful year in Kindergarten.
