Get ready to have a lot of fun learning a new language! In French 1, we start at the very beginning -- ABCs and 1,2,3s. By the end of the semester, you will be amazed at what you know! If you are willing to give it a try, you will be able to have a short conversation with someone in French.
Start now exposing yourself to the French language. Are you going to watch a movie? Put the subtitles in French! Or how about listening to it in French and using English subtitles. There are all kinds of websites, videos, and tutorials online. Spend a little time looking for things that spark your interest. Find music in French that suits your particular tastes.
Remember: French isn't only spoken in France! Many places in Europe and Africa use French -- there are even places in the Caribbean that use it!
Know that learning a language takes time. The best way to help yourself in class is to spend a few minutes every day looking over your vocabulary and any other new concepts we cover in class. Be ready to practice your French both in class and outside of it - you never know when you may run into a francophone (person who speaks French)!
