Dear Third Grade Parent/Guardian,

Welcome to a new and exciting school year at Summerfield Elementary School! My name is Julie Arrington and I will be your child’s third grade teacher. I am so excited to go on this journey with you and your child. I will not only be your child’s teacher, but also their advocate, support, and biggest cheerleader- rooting them on every step of the way!

I am originally from Ukraine and immigrated to this country with my family when I was five years old. I have lived in Greensboro for most of my life. In 2009, I graduated from Meredith College with a bachelor’s degree in studio art and a K-6 teaching license. I am married to my wonderful husband, Phillip, and we have two children. Emily is seven and Caden is two. We also have our fur baby Harvey, who is a beagle.

This is my 11th^th year teaching, and my third year at Summerfield Elementary School! I am looking forward to a year filled with learning! Your child will achieve a lot this year in terms of academic growth, greater self-confidence, and independence. We will using a literacy program called the ARC (American Reading Company) and a math program called Eureka.

Our classroom will operate like a family, and I want your child to feel a sense of ownership when they come in each morning. It is not Mrs. Arrington’s classroom, but THEIR classroom. I want to create an environment where students are free to discover and learn topics that may interest them, while discovering strengths and areas to work on along the way. I want learning to not only be rigorous, but also exciting and fun. My goal is to equip your child with the tools they need to be successful in whatever career or path they choose.
