Students who are ready to take honors or CTE courses are encouraged to apply to the Aviation Academy. This is a limited enrollment program with a maximum seating.

The 2025-2026 cutoff date is November 22nd for classes that begin in August, 2025. After the November, 2024 cutoff date, it will be based on seat availability. Applications will be accepted until March 2025. Applications after the cutoff date must have current grades attached. Applicants can be in grades 8-9; however, it is always best to begin at the beginning of 9th grade. If the applicant begins after their Freshmen year, the Aeorspace Technologies 1 and Honors Aerospace Technologies 2 classes must be placed on the schedule. Students may begin college classes as early as 11th grade, depending upon passing the pre-requisite classes, grades and teacher recommendations. 

Students must complete an essay explaining why they are the best candidates for the program. The program is a limited enrollment program and the essay is part of the rubric. Students will be scored on grades and the essay and once a threshold has been met, offers will be made, but any student under the threshold will be placed on a waiting list. 

To be accepted, the applicant must be of good character, have excellent attendance, and have a 2.8 GPA (grade point average). For eighth-graders, grades need to be A's and B's. It is preferred that students complete Math 1 (Algebra), but this does NOT disqualify those who have not completed it.

Once the application is submitted:

The application will be reviewed and verified for accuracy and compliance with the admission rules by the Aviation Academy and by the district. The application review period will be announced during the current school year and notification will be sent out on or about  January 31st. Once notified, the applicant has one week to review and must accept or decline before the end of the one week. The offer will be rescinded after one week and offers will be sent to students on the waiting list. Once accepted, notifications will be sent to the reassignment office and Andrews' data manager.

The applicant/parents must provide grades for the current year by this time to ensure correct placement in classes. Failure to do so will prevent the counselors from placing the students in the cohort class. All Freshman classes are predetermined and registration will be completed by the counselors.

The applicant/parents must then contact transportation for the required forms. If transportation is required, families will need to complete transportation paperwork each year. The reassignment paperwork must be completed the first year and then is not required to be completed as long as the student remains in good standing.
