The staff at the EMC @ GTCC Jamestown would like to thank all the interim principals and district personnel who have helped since January. EMC is delighted to have TaWuana Cook become our new principal beginning July 1st.
Below is a copy to her Connect-Ed message, in case you missed it on 5/10.
Dear Middle College @ GTCC Jamestown Families,
It is with great excitement and enthusiasm that I introduce myself to you as the new leader at the Middle College at GTCC Jamestown! I can assure you that I am joining this learning community with the commitment to continue and support the school’s mission and vision to provide an educational environment where our students can and will be successful; by nurturing positive relationships and providing rigorous educational experiences for all students within a safe environment. I wholeheartedly believe that if we as educators take care and maintain the welfare of our students and keep their best interest at heart; then our learning community will always be successful in preparing our students for their future. The Middle College @ GTCC-Jamestown will be an environment that is inclusive, intentional, and inspiring! GTCC-Jamestown will also be committed to addressing the individual needs of our students by focusing on social emotional learning (SEL) to help each of our students grow and excel individually to create a healthy lifestyle and schooling experience.
I’d like to tell you a little about myself, and I look forward to being able to meet you soon. The 2024-2025 school year will mark my 11th year in education. I started my educational journey completing my undergraduate degree at North Carolina A&T State University where I was a Four-Year starter on our 3x MEAC Women’s Basketball Championship Team. After graduation, I played professional basketball for two years, then decided to return stateside to pursue an educational degree in Physical Education. I completed my master’s degree and began teaching at the Early/Middle College at GTCC-High Point and the Early/Middle College at GTCC Greensboro in 2013. I taught health and physical education at both schools before joining the High Point Leadership Academy in 2017. I graduated from High Point University in the summer of 2018 with a Master’s in Educational Leadership and became the Assistant Principal at Jamestown Middle School in October; I have been serving the Jamestown community ever since.
As the summer approaches, and the school year is ending, I am collaborating with our staff now to make a transition to the Middle College @ GTCC-Jamestown. As we begin the 2024-2025 academic year on August 6, 2024, let’s begin by working together to ensure that every student can receive a high-quality education and graduate ready for college, career, and life. The partnership between home and school will be no different than our school’s mission and vision, as we share a common goal to support our scholars in a culture of excellence and achievement. I am truly excited to collaborate with you on this journey as we foster a conducive learning environment for our scholars and celebrate student success during their time here at the Early/Middle College.
