About Me
Kayla Dykes is originally from Alexandria, Virginia and has taught k-12 art for the past 12 years. She went to the Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington, DC where she received her Bachelors of Fine Arts and Masters of Art Teaching. In her summers in DC she worked in the education department of the National Building Museum, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, and taught digital photography The Madeira Boarding School.
She started her teaching career in Loudoun County, Virginia teaching at Harmony Middle School, Potomac Falls High School and Park View High School. At Park View she had the opportunity to be department head and taught AP Art.
Outside of school in Loudoun she was head coach of the scholastic rowing team at Stone Bridge High School for 5 years. In that time the team had multiple podium finishes at state championships as well as multiple qualifying and competing boats at nationals.
Kayla moved to North Carolina in 2018 with her husband and started teaching at Pearce Elementary where she is now. They welcomed their baby girl Sofia into their family in 2019 and are now enjoying toddlerhood. In her free time she exercises and enjoys the outdoors with Sofia.
