Starting this Fall (2019), Claxton Elementary will offer an after-school string orchestra program. In this program, 5th grade students will be able to learn how to play the violin, viola, cello, or bass. This will be a fantastic opportunity for students to learn a string instrument, participate in a group ensemble, gain valuable musicianship skills, and perform concerts in our community.
At this point in the development of this string program however students will have to purchase, rent, or borrow their own instruments. Local vendors include Moore Music Company, Guitar Center, and Music & Arts. If finances are an issue, please contact Mr. Beach. The goal to provide an opportunity for ANYONE to learn a string instrument. We will be using the Sound Innovations curriculum (book 1). Students are also advised to provide their own music stand. The total supplies needed include:
1. Instrument (violin, viola, cello, or bass)
2. Sound Innovations bk. 1 (***Make sure that you purchase the right book for your instrument! Example: if you are playing violin, purchase the book that says "violin book 1" in the top right corner of the cover. )
3. Music Stand
