Principal Naglee's Connect Ed Messages

October 27, 2024

This is Erik Naglee, Principal of Page High School calling with important information for our Pirate students and families.

Congratulations to our Big Dreamers of the week:

9th- Emily Correa
10th- Nathalie Frid
11th- Joselyn Sims
12th- Markel Clark
Staff- Sue Hurley

We had a great Grimsley-Page week last week.  Students had fun each day and celebrated Page Pride throughout the week.  A special thank you goes out to Page Student Council, Page Band, Chorus, Cheer, Dance, and NJROTC for making our Pep Rallies and games very memorable!  The bonfire was electric, and we had two great nights of football. For those of you in attendance for the varsity game, there was a physical altercation between students, but none of our students were involved. I am proud of how our students acted all week!

This week marks the end of the 1st quarter for students.  Please remind students to check Power School and Canvas and get all assignments turned in by the end of the quarter, this Friday, November 1st.  1st Quarter Report Cards will be emailed to all parents and guardians on November 14th.
This Tuesday, October 29th is the makeup day for underclassmen portraits. Students who missed fall pictures will be able to get their picture taken during English class. As a reminder, Lifetouch photography will not send proofs home. Instead, students and families will be able to access their pictures online in 2 to 3 weeks. This will be the last chance for your student to have their picture in the yearbook. Don't miss out!

Club L.E.O. (Leadership Experience and Opportunity) will hold an interest meeting this Tuesday, October 29th at 8:30am in the Media Center.  Club LEO is a service-learning club that provides opportunities for students to serve others in our community while meeting new people and earning service hours for x2vol.  Regular meetings are held every 2nd Tuesday of the month in the Media Center.  Contact Mr. Mayo at mayoc2@gcsnc.com  for more information or questions.

This Wednesday, October 30 we will be administering the PreACT for all 10th graders at Page.  9th and 11th graders will have a remote learning day and 12th graders will have an Opportunity Day.  These days are perfect opportunities for students to catch up on classwork and submit assignments through Canvas.
Doors will open for 10th graders only at 9 am and a bagged breakfast and lunch will be served for all students.  Students must be in their testing locations by 9:20 am and anyone arriving after this time will not be allowed to test.  Students may leave campus after testing has been completed if they have a dismissal note from home.  Administrators will collect these notes before dismissing students.  If students plan to stay until the end of the day they will go to the cafeteria after testing.

Yearbooks continue to be on sale through the Lifetouch website. They can be purchased online at www.ybpay.lifetouch.com for $70.  For more information go to @pageyearbook on Instagram or contact Ms. Kramp.

Attention Seniors:  We encourage all seniors to apply for the Park Scholarships program at NC State. The Park Scholarships program brings together students with outstanding accomplishments and potential in scholarship, leadership, service, and character.  Applications for the Park Scholarships program and admission to NC State, are both due this week by 11:59 p.m. ET on Friday, November 1 for consideration for the Park Scholarship.

We look forward to seeing each of our Pirates Monday morning. We will continue to have a great school year working together. As always, we appreciate your ongoing support of Page High where we dream big in all that we do.

It is hard to believe we are already halfway through the first quarter.  Our staff and students are working hard each day in our classrooms, and we are seeing a lot of growth.  Keep up the good work.

Now that you have received your student’s Progress Report last week, please encourage your student to take advantage of our Tutoring Hours.  Every teacher has one morning and one afternoon Tutoring session each week.  This is a great opportunity for students to check in with teachers, ask questions, make up missed work, and prepare for class quizzes and tests.  Each teacher’s Tutoring time is posted on the Page website and teachers have these hours posted on their classroom doors.

Don’t forget that Page will have two Fall Testing days in October.  On Monday, October 7 all 10th and 11th graders will take the PSAT and on Wednesday, October 30 all 10th graders will take the PreACT.

For the PSAT on October 7th, all 10th and 11th graders will come to campus to take the test.  9th graders will have a remote learning day and should log into Canvas to complete assignments for each of their classes.  12th graders will have an Opportunity Day where they can work on college applications, visit schools, or participate in job shadowing in a field of interest.  10th and 11th graders must be in the building by 9:20am in order to be allowed into the testing rooms.  And once testing is over, students may leave if they have a note from a parent granting them permission.

Registration is open for the Page and Dudley High Schools’ HBCU Tours which will take place November 12-16.  Students will have the opportunity to visit Tuskegee University, Alcorn State University, Alabama State University, Jackson State University and Alabama A&M University.  Please visit motivationalfoundation.com to register your student or email info@motivationalfoundation.com with any questions.

We accept clean, gently used clothing and shoes. Non-perishable food items, (especially individually packaged, healthy snacks), new socks, new underwear, and any hygiene products are also most appreciated! Your generous donations directly support students and families at Page.
Page will be hosting a Guilford Count Public Health mobile immunization site to help students and their families get the necessary immunizations, preventing exclusion from school due to non-compliance.  Our date is scheduled for tomorrow Monday September 30 at Page from 8:30am-11:00am.  Students must have a permission slip signed in order to receive the immunizations.  The permission slip is attached here.
The Malik Ramirez Learn to Swim Program gives Page HS students the opportunity to learn basic swimming skills in a fun social environment at the state-of-the-art Greensboro Aquatic Center.  If your student is hesitant to get in the water or doesn’t know how to swim, then this is the perfect program!  Page is the only High School in GCS that offers these swim lessons and it is a great chance to gain some skills that your student will use the rest of their life.  Encourage your student to sign up now in the front office or with Mr. MJ during both lunches.  Sessions begin Tuesday October 15 and will be Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for two weeks.  The bus will leave Page at 1:40pm and be back by 3:30pm.  Permission slips are needed, and we can also provide a swimsuit and swim cap if your student doesn’t have one!

Good evening, Page students and families. This is Erik Naglee, Principal of Page High School calling with important information as we approach the third week of school.

Page students continue to do a great job with our new cell phone policy.  We have had some good feedback from students too.  Several students have commented about how they can concentrate better in class when they don’t have their phone out.   As a reminder, students must put their personal electronic devices, including headphones and earbuds, in their bag prior to the start of every class.

Please remember that school doors open and students may begin entering the building at 9:00am.  1st period begins at 9:20 but students should plan to arrive no later than 9:15 in order to walk through the scanners and make it to 1st period on time.  Please remind your students to take out any metal items such as laptops, spiral notebooks, 3-ring binders and metal water bottles as they walk through the scanners so we can keep the lines moving and keep our campus as safe as possible.

We began recording student tardies last week.  Students have 5 minutes between classes which is plenty of time to get to their next class.  Students who accumulate 3 tardies to a single class will serve After School Detention with that teacher.  On the 5th Tardy they will receive an In-School Suspension consequence.  We also conducted Tardy Sweeps last week. Students who receive 3 tardies during our Tardy Sweeps will receive a day of In School Suspension as well.   Please help your student understand how important it is to be to class on time.  Our teachers teach from bell to bell and when your student is tardy, they miss important instruction.

Most students have received their Chromebook by now.  Please help your student create a routine of charging this device each night and bringing it to school each day.  This is a very important part of your student’s learning.  Students are responsible for their Chromebook and charger all year long and will turn these devices in after exams.  If your student loses their device, they may subject to a technology fine.

Page Parking Permits will also be checked each day.  If your student parks in a spot without a Page Parking Permit displayed in the car, the vehicle will be towed.

Would you like your student to be able to travel and see the world? Join us for an informational meeting about our upcoming trip to Ireland! Discover the breathtaking landscapes, rich culture, and unforgettable experiences that await you. Join Mrs. Blevins on Tuesday, September 10th in the Media Center at 6pm for more information. Register for the meeting and more information by RSVPing with the Canvas QR code or at the link HERE: https://rsvp.eftours.com/6f24nha

Only a few hours remain for the yearbook back-to-school sale. Until midnight tonight, books are the lowest price of the year, $60. After midnight the price goes up to $70. Books can be purchased online at www.ybpay.lifetouch.com. For more information go to @pageyearbook on Instagram or contact Ms. Kramp.

Looking ahead, the Class of 2025 will meet with Herff Jones in regards to graduate products available on Friday, Sept 20th during 4th period in the gym. Make sure you are there to hear all the exciting items they have to celebrate your upcoming accomplishment when you walk across that stage.

Additionally, graduation dates have been announced for GCS. We will hold our ceremony on Thursday, June 12th at 12:30 in the Greensboro Coliseum.

We look forward to seeing each of our Pirates Monday morning. We will continue to have a great school year working together. As always, we appreciate your ongoing support of Page High where we dream big in all that we do.

We had a very successful first week of school.  It was great to see so many new and familiar faces in classrooms.  I want to commend our Pirates for following our new cell phone policy.  As a reminder, students must put their personal electronic devices, including headphones and earbuds, in their bag prior to the start of every class.  Teachers have designated a space in their classroom for students to leave their bookbags/personal items that is away from their seats.  If a student does not have a bag, they will put these items in a teacher provided class bin.  Any student found to have their device during instruction will receive a verbal warning to put it in their bag.  If they fail to do so, or are found with a device again, teachers will call the office for an administrator.

I also want to commend our Pirates for using the new SmartPass system.  This year students will initiate hall passes on their Chromebooks which will allow teachers to continue teaching without having to stop and write a pass.

We are looking forward to seeing all our Pirates bright and early Tuesday morning.  Doors will open and students may begin entering the building at 9:00am.

We will begin recording tardies this week.  Students have 5 minutes between classes which is plenty of time to get to their next class.  Students who accumulate 3 tardies to a class will serve After School Detention with that teacher.  On the 5th Tardy they will receive an In-School Suspension consequence.

Students received their Chromebooks last week.  Please help your student create a routine of charging this device each night and bringing it to school each day.  This is a very important part of your student’s learning.  Students are responsible for their Chromebook and charger all year long and will turn these devices in after exams.  If your student loses their device they may subject to a technology fine.

Page Parking Permits will also be checked each day.  If your student parks in a spot without a Page Parking Permit displayed in the car, the vehicle will be towed.

The yearbook Back to School sale is underway. Through September 7, yearbooks are $60, the lowest price of the year. Books can be purchased online at www.ybpay.lifetouch.com. For more information go to @pageyearbook on Instagram or contact Ms. Kramp.

Students are able to request a schedule change online. Please remember that these are not guaranteed and must be approved by administration and are based on space available in the requested class.  Schedule change requests can be honored if it is a duplicate course (such as two periods of Math) or if you do not meet the pre-requisites for the course.  Please note that we do not make class changes based on teacher requests.  If you need to request a change, please submit the online schedule change request form using the QR code on the Counseling flyers.  The last day to submit a schedule change is Friday, September 6th at 5:00pm.

We look forward to seeing each of you tomorrow morning. We will continue to have a great school year working together. As always, we appreciate your ongoing support of Page High where we dream big in all that we do.

Good evening Page Pirate students and families. This is Erik Naglee, principal of Page High calling with important information for our first week back at school. Thanks to all our students and families that were able to come out to Page Fest last week.  We are so excited about welcoming all students back tomorrow morning!
As a reminder, 1st period will begin at 9:20. Students may enter the building starting at 9:00. However, students will need to arrive to school by 9:15 in order to walk through the  screeners that GCS has put in all high schools and middle schools in order to be in 1st period on time at 9:20.  The screeners assist us with keeping our campus as safe as possible, and all students who attend will have to be screened.  There are three locations across campus that students will enter. These are located in the G-Wing, at the front office area and in front of the gym.
Students will go to first period upon entry to the building. If your student doesn’t have their hard copy schedule or can’t access their schedule through PowerSchool, we will have lists posted around the school that will be listed by student last name that gives them their first period with the appropriate room number.   Once students arrive to first period, they will receive a copy of their schedule for the day. This will be the schedule students should follow. We will have two lunches again this year depending on students 4th period class.  Seniors and Juniors may leave for off campus lunch. 9th and 10th graders must remain on campus for their lunch. For tomorrow, Weaver students will remain on campus at Page as they report to Weaver on day 2. During their Weaver time, they will report to the Media Center.
Seniors need to make sure their immunizations are up to date before they return to school.  12th-grade students are required to receive the booster dose of the Meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV).

This is a state of the art surface and we are incredibly thankful to the many donors that made this happen which was led by our booster club.
