The need to rebuild Sternberger Elementary was identified in the GCS Facilities Master Plan in 2019 after months of study and public meetings.
While Sternberger Elementary was initially going to be included in phase 1, the board opted to reorganize slightly to make better use of the $300 million that will be available.
As a result, Kiser Middle will be rebuilt in phase 1, though it fell just below Sternberger in the prioritization list.
This means that construction on Sternberger Elementary will not begin until after a second bond referendum is passed, but some money from this referendum will be used to design the project.
This will help the project move more quickly when funds for construction are available.
