Five GCS Administrators Appointed as School Leaders
Five Guilford County schools will have new leadership next year, following approval of new administrators by the Guilford County Board of Education at its meeting tonight.
Sheila Ijames will be the new principal of Hampton Elementary University Partnership Magnet. Ijames comes to GCS from Charlotte-Mecklenberg Schools, where she most recently served as principal of Hawthorne High School. She has also served as a regional assistant, Title I specialist, assistant principal and teacher. Hampton Elementary is a year-round school and begins July 18.
Carole Ashby will serve as the new principal at Southern Elementary. Ashby, who began her career with GCS in 1992, has been an assistant principal at both Jackson Middle and Aycock Middle. She also has significant experience as an elementary school teacher and curriculum facilitator.
Penny Loschin will become the new principal at Madison Elementary. Loschin has most recently been assistant principal at Jesse Wharton, where she implemented a successful behavior intervention and discipline plan, as well as a professional learning community among for staff development. She has also been an assistant principal at Northwest High and a classroom teacher at Stokesdale Elementary.
Kimberly Fleming will become principal of Pilot Elementary, following 10 years as principal of Jamestown Elementary. During her time at Jamestown Elementary, the school’s End-of-Grade composite scores improved by 10 percentage points. The school achieved three years of high growth and three years as a School of Distinction.
Paul Wirth will serve as an assistant principal at Welborn Middle. Wirth was a student services administrator for the Enrichment Region and also served as a Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) coach and teacher of exceptional children.
