GCS Names Morehead Elementary Principal
Guilford County Schools announced Shirley Stipe-Zendle as the new principal for Morehead Expressive Arts Magnet School at the Sept. 10 Board of Education meeting.
For the past four years, Stipe-Zendle has served as the Student Services Administrator for the Northern Region. Prior to this role, she was an assistant principal at Western Guilford High School and a reading teacher in the Lexington City Schools.
In her role as the Student Services Administrator, Stipe-Zendle provided resources and assistance to staff and parents in 23 schools, provided parents and school personnel with support and strategies for resolving conflicts and assisted in the 14 percentage point decrease in short-term suspensions in 2011-12.
In addition, she coordinated the Student Spaceflight Experiments Program for Guilford County Schools, where student teams from three schools sent a science experiment into space. She also coordinated the Amateur Radio on the International Space Station event, where 860 students and guests from across Guilford County used amateur radio to contact and speak with astronaut Tom Marshburn while he was on the International Space Station.
Stipe-Zendle has a bachelor’s in English from Valdosta State University, a Master of Arts degree in English from the University of Utah, a Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing from Virginia Commonwealth University, and Master of School Administration and Education Specialist degrees from UNC Chapel Hill. She is currently a doctoral candidate and was named the July 2013 Guilford County Schools Employee of the Month.
