GCS and Pearce Elementary Recognized for United Way Partnerships
The United Way of North Carolina recently named Guilford County Schools and Pearce Elementary 2015 Spirit of North Carolina Award winners.
The Spirit of North Carolina Awards for Campaign Excellence is sponsored by the United Way of North Carolina and celebrates the partnership of people working together to better their communities by recognizing companies and organizations that demonstrate strong community support through local United Way involvement.
"Pearce Elementary is a statewide leader in philanthropy for the United Way. The principal, teachers and every student believe in the spirit of community and helping a neighbor. For the last four years, they have reached for the next level and won. Their gifts have been invested in children and families who need help with basic needs like food, childcare, tutoring, housing, doctor visits and training for a job. I cannot wait for Pearce to hit a five-year high,” says Michelle-Gethers Clark, President & CEO, United Way of Greater Greensboro.
During the 2015 campaign, GCS raised more than $392,820 for the United Ways of Greater Greensboro and Greater High Point. Pearce Elementary donated approximately $15,000, making it the fourth year in a row the school raised more than $10,000 for the United Way.
“I am so pleased that our employees increased total giving by 1.83% over 2014, with $392,820 in total contributions,” says Dr. Tony Watlington, Central Region superintendent and 2015 GCS campaign chair. “This is GCS’ highest pledge total in campaign history.”
Companies and organizations are judged on seven standards of excellence, including volunteer culture, partnership with community to raise awareness of needs and foster a spirit of giving, leadership involvement and campaign coordination.
