GCS Announces Spring and Summer Employees of the Month
Nov. 19, 2020 – Two GCS educators were recognized this week for their willingness to help their colleagues make the switch from in-person to online learning.
Monica Bush, a seventh-grade science teacher at Kernodle Middle, was named as the spring 2020 Employee of the Month. She was nominated by her colleagues in late March when GCS and other districts were suddenly moved to remote learning over the course of a weekend.
Coworker Abby McCraw wrote, “At the coronavirus outbreak, she worked tirelessly not only on our team, but also with the entire school to educate the staff on how to use Canvas. She made and sent out instructional videos, created modules on Canvas for staff to use and worked with our curriculum facilitator and media center personnel. She has gone above and beyond her job to ensure that all teachers are capable to do our job remotely.”
Curriculum facilitator Jamie Davis also won praise from nearly 30 of her colleagues at Southeast High for stepping up to help them transition to online learning, earning her the title of summer 2020 Employee of the Month.
One such nomination from Cynthia Vaughn states: “While online learning has upended our worlds and stressed us out in whole new ways, Jamie Davis has been the calm in the storm. As we’re all learning new things about Canvas, Nearpod, etc., Jamie has been fantastic about creating how-to videos, providing guidance, and encouraging us in so many ways. She gives pep talks when we feel overwhelmed, and no matter how many times she's asked the same question, she answers with patience, humor, and clarity. We're a Falcon family, and Jamie does an awesome job of taking care of our 'nest.' In other words, Jamie Davis rocks!”
Bush and Davis each received a $50 gift card to Sam’s Club, which has given nearly $9,000 to outstanding GCS employees since 2005.
