Cafeteria Manager is November GCS Employee of the Month
Nov. 10, 2020 – It was a typical Monday, and Cherrie Rodriguez was greeting families who came for grab-and-go meals at Vandalia Elementary. She knew their names and how many meals they needed, and she started bagging them before they got to her spot under the tent outside the school entrance. The cafeteria manager reminded them of the upcoming Veteran’s Day holiday and how Tuesday’s meals would be doubled to cover the holiday closure.
But yesterday was a little different. As the students in voluntary pre-kindergarten and kindergarten classes began to line up for dismissal, stopping to play in the fallen leaves, they revealed signs of congratulations they made for Ms. Cherrie, who was named the November GCS Employee of the Month.
Rodriguez was nominated by several co-workers, including Venetia Bingham, who spoke about how much she has learned from Rodriguez. Bingham wrote, “Mrs. Cherrie is the most energetic manager I have ever met. She is hands-on with us all the way. Cherrie loves the children and parents that come pick up lunches, and they love and respect her. She is truly a woman who is dedicated to GCS in every way.”
Rodriguez received a $50 gift card to Sam’s Club, which has given nearly $9,000 to outstanding GCS employees since 2005. During the month of November, her photo will hang at the district’s central office, at Vandalia Elementary and at the Sam’s Club on Wendover Avenue.
