FFA Surprises Dr. Rodney Boone with Special Gift
Our FFA students gave Dr. Rodney Boone a gift that he'll never forget.
Dr. Boone attended Northampton County – West High School, where FFA played an integral role in his development as a young man. During his time as an FFA member, Dr. Boone participated in multiple FFA Leadership Development Events like Creed Speaking, Prepared Public Speaking and Parliamentary Procedure. The county Dr. Boone grew up in, Northampton, has been a traditionally poor county and was ranked the 10th poorest in North Carolina in 2021. Because of their socioeconomic status, students like Dr. Boone were unable to afford their own personal FFA jacket, having to compete in borrowed jackets owned by their chapter.
A few months back, Mr. Hensley brought this information to our Southern Guilford FFA Officer Team, and they immediately wanted to purchase him his very own jacket. The last line of the FFA Motto states “Living to Serve.” One of our chapter's founding principles is community service and caring for others. Our chapter truly believes in selfless actions and that we are placed on this earth not for ourselves but for others. Because of this principle, our officer team wanted to serve their school principal and show him that he belonged to the Southern Guilford FFAmily. The FFA Creed states “with a faith born not of words but of deeds.” This world needs more deed doers not word sayers. Our officer team is about showing the power FFA has through love and actions like the gift of his very own blue corduroy jacket.
