  • Chiyanna Young, Principal

    My name is Chiyanna Young and I am extremely excited to be the principal of Florence Elementary School for the 2019-2020 school year.  I`ve been in education for 19 years.  I love working with teachers, students and parents on making the school environment the best it can be for all stakeholders.  I have a Bachelor`s and Master`s Degree from North Carolina A&T State University, a Master`s Degree from High Point University, and my Educational Specialist Degree from Liberty University.  I`ve served Guilford County Schools as an elementary and high school counselor, assistant principal, and principal.  

    I am thrilled to be a part of the Florence Family again this year as a part of the administrative team! I am passionate about creating the very best environment for our students to learn.  Our teachers are the best of the best, and I am excited to support and empower them in their creative and innovative endeavors.  I have been blessed to call Florence home, and to have made so many wonderful connections with the families and community here.  Go Cowboys!

  • Jenny Bates, Assistant Principal

    I am excited to serve as your Assistant Principal and look forward to meeting each of you!  I began my professional career in the mental health field and served youth and families in a variety of circumstances.  I moved into the educational system and worked in Davie County Schools, WSFCS, and Rockingham County Schools.  I've served as a school counselor and the district lead elementary counselor for Rockingham County Schools.  I earned my administrative license and moved into a school administrator role in 2022 and really enjoy it!

    My family is the most important part of my life and they keep me uplifted and grounded at the same time.  My husband is a high school football coach, our son attends high school, and we have three miniature schnauzers.  I am thrilled to be able to work in GCS close to home and family.  I have a passion for building strong relationships and hope to become a positive member of your close-knit school family!  Florence Cowboys are GREAT!
