Science Lab, with a focus on STEM
by Ms. Baldwin
Welcome back!
I have to borrow Ms. Frizzle's catch phrase, "Take chances, make mistakes and get messy." That is a lot of what we embody in the science lab. Add improving our community by solving real world problems and that is the science lab in a nutshell. This first month is learning about safety and procedures. Students will also be completing experiments using the scientific method and solving engineering problems using the engineering design process.
Science Olympiad Applications should go home in the second week of school. This will go out to fourth and fifth grade students only and is due 9/18/23.
Science and Engineering Fair Information will go home by Monday, September 25th. This is open to all General Greene students.
Join the planning committee for STEM fair on Tuesday, September 19th at 4pm in the science lab. A virtual link will be provided at a later date.
You can always contact me via email at baldwia4@gcsnc.com.
This is going to be a fantastic year!

This fall we will be having our Annual Arts Fundraiser for K-5. This is an opportunity to support the Arts program at General Greene by ordering a special keepsake with your child's artwork on it! Students will begin their fundraising artwork in class mid-September.
Further updates and information on the fundraiser will be sent out via connect-ed and in teacher's weekly updates. The deadline for family orders will be November 1st. These orders will be in before winter break.

Mrs. Adams
We are focusing on pitch and melody in music class this quarter. Students in Kindergarten are learning to play songs on boomwhackers and melody bells using 2-3 pitches. Students in grades 1-5 are learning to read notes on the music staff and play melodies on keyboards, boomwhackers, and melody bells. Students in each grade are composing songs using the pitches they have learned.
