• Welcome to 6th Grade Social Studies!  I am Mr. Joe Henzler and I am excited to have you in my class!  This will be my 7th year at Kiser Middle!  I began my teaching journey as a T.A. and worked with Exceptional Children for 4.5 years.  I got a Lateral Entry position in 2018 and this December marks 11 Years with Guilford County Schools.   I have worked in numerous industries in my adult life.  I drove a tow-truck for three years, worked for a billboard company, was a sheet-metal worker for a Heating/AC company, and worked in various customer service, Inside and Direct Sales Account Manager positions.  I have worked in the Hardware Industry and also spent time serving the Hospice Industry.  I enjoy bringing real world experiences to students.

I have a daughter who graduated from East Carolina with her BFA in Musical Theater. She lives in New York City her end goal is to sing and dance on Broadway.

This school year we will study the world, the ancient world and follow a timeline, somewhat.  Geography is an important theme in ALL we do.  Every unit will have a focus or component of geography.  Where in the world are we?  Where did events happen and take place?  Taking a journalistic approach, students will learn the Who, What, Where, When and most importantly the HOW and WHY.  Our content and standards are based on students explaining the factors that caused events to happen.  Also, students will be prompted, encouraged and urged to think deeper!   From the dawn of early man to the forming of civilizations, we will explore cultures, ethnicities, religions and how science and technology emerged as humans/mankind developed.

Students will need to have their composition book-NOT spiral, a sturdy two-pocket folder and a pencil every day.  Be prepared.  Be ready. It can be fun as we build our knowledge while increasing our literacy in reading AND writing about the history of the ancient world.

I LOVE to ride my road bike. It is an Italian Steel frame and rides smooth and fast.
