In 8th grade, scholars will learn the history of North Carolina & the U.S. Scholars will also learn the role that North Carolina has played in the development of the United States. This course will target our scholars’ growth in the areas of reading, writing, listening, speaking, discussion, reflection, and viewing. Reading strategies, critical thinking skills, and vocabulary building comprise the main elements of reading instructions. Through primary and secondary documents and online sources, scholars will practice reading strategies and comprehension skills. Scholars will also be completing three current events each quarter which will require the scholars to ask questions about their local, state, U.S., and world involvement. The overall goal of the class is to increase the literacy and writing ability of our scholars.
My name is Dr. Rob Scott, and I reside in Burlington, North Carolina. with my wife, three children, and our cat, dog, and two hamsters. I'm an 8th-grade U.S. History teacher in the Guilford County School District and have taught for twelve years. This will be my twelfth year as a teacher, following a ten-year career as a police officer in two cities and the state of North Carolina. As a military brat, I grew up in various parts of the world, including London, England; Rota, Spain; Bahrain; Buenos Aires, Argentina; and the U.S. Thanks to my travels, I am fluent in English and Spanish and am dangerous in French. I have visited over 40 countries and witnessed different lifestyles, work environments, and educational systems. I am currently pursuing a Ed.D. in Education with a concentration in Organizational Leadership, and I aim to pursue my Ed.D. and transition into an administrative role.
