Ms. Rivas De Kouba

Greetings Tiger Nation!

I am excited and honored to serve as Assistant Principal at Western Guilford Middle School. I’m looking forward to building positive relationships with our school community: staff, parents, students, and community partners. Strong relationships are built on respect for one another, effective communication, and trust. With over 30 years in education, my goal is for our scholars at Tiger Nation to learn in a nurturing environment that empowers them to become critical-thinkers, problem-solvers, and caring future leaders.

My career in education began in Buenos Aires, Argentina as a Spanish Language Arts and English as a Foreign Language teacher. I transitioned to United States in the year 2000. During my years in Guilford County Schools, I have served as a Spanish teacher at Southwest Middle and taught English Language Learners (ELLs) both at Southwest Guilford Middle and High. I was recognized as Teacher of the Year in 2008. I have also had the privilege to serve as a Curriculum Facilitator at Doris Henderson Newcomers School (DHNS) and Assistant Principal at Ferndale Middle.  Additionally, I have had the honor to serve as teacher mentor, instructional coach, and conference presenter as well as keynote speaker.

I received my bachelor’s degree in K-12 Foreign Language Education in Buenos Aires, Argentina and I graduated with my master’s degree in School Leadership from Appalachian State University, North Carolina. I am a life-long learner with a passion for literacy, diversity, and empowering others. Throughout the years I have collaborated with educators in Argentina, Guatemala, England, and Japan.

When not at school, I love spending time with family and friends, watching movies, and playing board games. I enjoy cooking and traveling within US and around the world. I do my best to visit my parents and family in Argentina as often as possible. Recently, I began exploring two new pastimes: gardening and camping.

I am looking forward to getting to know everyone and having a wonderful educational year together.
