Mrs. Christina Lowder
I grew up in Bloomsbury, New Jersey with my parents and two sisters. My ENTIRE family are musicians. Both of my parents were music teachers (elementary and middle school band), my sisters have both taught elementary music and my younger sister now works creating music lessons and curriculum for Kindermusik International. I began playing piano at age 7 and from there went on to explore some other instruments: flute, drums, and guitar. I became very passionate about percussion and drums and that was my main focus in high school and college. I was involved in singing and theater since about 8 years old and performed in over 25 musical productions with a local theater group. In college, I moved from performing on stage to playing drums in the pit orchestra and I continue that today by playing for many shows with Elon University, UNCG, High Point Community Theater and various other schools and community groups. Throughout middle and high school I sang in various choirs and loved to sing and play guitar at home.
After high school, I attended Penn State University and majored in music education with a focus on percussion. In 2006, I moved to Greensboro to pursue my masters in music (percussion performance) at UNCG. I met my husband, Thad, in that program where he was also studying percussion. We love to play music together and have performed in the community with my sister in our acoustic trio called "Seeing Double." In 2013, Thad and I were married in Manteo on the Outer Banks. 2016 was a big year for our family as we adopted our amazing dog, Jackson, who is a lab and Australian Shepherd mix and 3 months later welcomed our son, Zachary, into the world. Last March, we grew our family a little more, with the birth of our daughter Alex. I love going for walks and spending time at the beach. Before having kids, I loved playing golf and hope to get back to it more in the coming year. I have been teaching for Guilford County Schools since the 2008-2009 school year where I began my career at The Academy at Lincoln teaching piano, chorus, and guitar. In 2012-2013, I joined the staff at Southwest Middle School and absolutely love directing the choir program here on the ranch!
