Mrs. Van Wert

I am so happy to be teaching at Colfax Elementary School! I began my teaching career here in 1998 after graduating from Greensboro College with my degree in Elementary Education. I taught second grade here for eight years and loved it! I decided to stay home with my two sons for the next eight years until they entered 3rd grade and Kindergarten, both at Colfax. Once my youngest started elementary school, I enjoyed returning to teach as a part-time Reading Specialist here at Colfax. I taught 3rd grade the following year. In the last few years, I have made my way back to teaching 2nd grade and I LOVE it!

I completed my Master of Education degree in Reading in May of 2005 at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, just before having my first son. I am excited to begin my adventure of getting Nationally Board Certified this year. 

My husband, who is a Battalion Chief with the City of Greensboro Fire Department, and I have two sons, ages 18 & 16. My oldest is a freshman at UNCC and my youngest is a sophomore at Northwest High School. I can't believe it!   

I love being a part of the wonderful teaching staff here at Colfax where student success is number one. Teaching reading is a passion of mine and I look forward to helping students love reading and find value in themselves and learning!
