Teach Earth is built upon the principle that every individual can contribute to a sustainable planet, regardless of scientific background or skill. Select talented teachers from all subject areas will work side by side with world-class scientists on field research expeditions around the world for 7 to 14 days, having the opportunity to learn the scientific process first hand and help to solve some of the world’s most pressing environmental challenges. A Teach Earth Fellowship includes the full cost of your assigned expedition, including meals, accommodations, and on-site transportation.

The Grosvenor Teacher Fellow (GTF) program is a professional development opportunity made possible by a partnership between Lindblad Expeditions and National Geographic Education. This opportunity gives current K–12 US classroom teachers and informal educators the opportunity to travel aboard the Lindblad-National Geographic fleet on expeditions to regions including the Arctic, British and Irish Isles, Canadian Maritimes, Iceland, the Galapagos, Antarctica and more. Fund for Teachers: helps preK-12 teachers design and embark on summer learning experiences around the globe that build on their interests and benefit their students. This program will support a variety of projects that support teachers' active participation in their own professional growth. Awards through this program are designed to create enhanced learning environments for teachers, their students, and their communities. Awards range from $5,000 for individual teachers to $10,000 for a group of teachers. Guidelines are available on the organization’s website. 

Goethe Transatlantic Outreach Program: Since 2001, the TOP program has sought to find the best and most qualified K-12 social studies educators in the United States and give them the opportunity to experience Modern Germany in the most dramatic way possible: in person. Keizai Koho Fellowship Program: Middle school and high school teachers of economics, social studies, and history; supervisors, specialists and school administrators at the district & state levels, and faculty associated with colleges directly concerned with the training of teachers are eligible for this two week educator tour of Japan. This year the ten-day itinerary in Japan will focus on Tokyo. The dates are June 26-July 5, 2017 (tentative).Applicants must have skills and experience in developing curriculum. Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Short-Term Program for U.S. K-12 Educators:

Teachers for Global Classrooms Program (TGC) provides a professional development opportunity for middle and high school teachers from the United States to participate in a program aimed at globalizing teaching and learning in their classrooms. The program includes an online course and an international fellowship through a two- or three week country visit upon successful completion of the online course. Current countries of program travel: Brazil, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Morocco or Ukraine. Applications deadline is March 20, 2017. http://www.irex.org/project/teachers-global-classrooms-program-tgc

National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Programs for School and College Educators. NEH offers tuition-free opportunities for educators to study a variety of humanities topics here and abroad. Stipends of $1,200-$3,900 help cover expenses for these one- to five-week programs. International seminars include Spain, the Netherlands, Turkey and Italy. American Council Educational Seminars: The Educational Seminars program offers Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA), U.S. Department of State funded grants for U.S. school teachers and administrators. Outbound exchanges are short term, taking place during the summer break in the U.S., and focus on sharing of best practices and professional development. Inbound exchanges take place during the school year so that host participants can provide shadowing opportunities and professional development and so that international educators can see U.S. schools in action.  

Fulbright Scholarships: Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, the Fulbright Scholarship Program is the largest U.S. international exchange program offering opportunities for students, scholars, and professionals to undertake international graduate study, advanced research, university teaching, and teaching in elementary and secondary schools worldwide. http://us.fulbrightonline.org/home.html

The Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Program, which is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and is administered by IIE, seeks to improve mutual understanding among teachers, their schools and communities in the U.S. and abroad. This program allows teachers to go abroad for three to six months to take classes at an international university, observe classes and offer seminars in local schools and complete a project of their own design.   Apply Online
