Hi! I'm Ms. Barnes!

I serve as Southern Guilford High School's curriculum facilitator, supporting our teachers in evaluating and adapting instruction to improve student performance. I especially provide support for beginning teachers. I also provide support in technology use, develop professional learning opportunities, assist with communications, and analyze school data to support our school improvement team.

I grew up in Gastonia, NC and attended Gardner-Webb University, where I majored in Music Education (K-12) and English Literature. I started my teaching career in my hometown and moved to Greensboro in 2016 after marrying my husband. I've been at Southern Guilford ever since. In my years of teaching, I have taught English at all levels grades 9-12 (inclusion, regular, honors, and AP); I have also previously taught courses in creative writing and digital design. I have been certified in both the Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) programs for English.

Outside of the classroom, I support the Southern Guilford High School Marching Band as an assistant director. I also have experience leading speech & debate club.

In my free time, I enjoy reading, cooking, traveling, arts & crafts, trying new foods, and spending time with my husband and dog.
